CITY ESCAPE

San Francisco, California

THE DESTINATION
San Francisco, specifically the Bay Area, is home to one of the largest Filipino communities in the U.S. You’ll feel right at home.

THE CROWD

Spotted regularly at SF’s rich food-and-drink scene are Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, and Ashton Kutcher.

THE VIBE

Artsy and diverse. You can enjoy sightseeing standbys like Victorian houses, streetcars, and hilly streets or go for a holiday pastime like, or dine at the Bay's wide selection of restaurants like Rich Table on Gough Street or Central Kitchen on 20th Street.

THE ESSENTIALS

Chic layers. A bomber jacket in luxe materials or a full-cover jacket with zips and a hood to ward against rain and wind. And flat boots for slippery streets.

ISLAND HIDEAWAY

Amanpulo, Pamalican Island, Philippines

THE DESTINATION
Turquoise waters, blinding white sands, eternal skies. It's paradise right in your backyard—with an almost always sunny forecast (Amanpulo is located outside the typhoon belt). Dry season begins in November so it’s best to go there then.

THE CROWD
Legends of the silver screen (Robert de Niro and Tom Cruise), music (Diana Ross and Mariah Carey), and fashion (Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer).

THE VIBE
It is ultraluxe and, more important, superprivate, and that’s why it is the go-to destination of the well-heeled. Ninja-like invisibility is the trademark of the Amanpulo staff, providing whatever you need without being seen or heard. It's like being alone on your own island.

THE ESSENTIALS
Coverups, from tunics to caftans, in vivacious tropical patterns. And, of course, sunglasses to shield your eyes from the intense glow of the sky.

WILD RETREAT

South Africa

THE DESTINATION
If you long for summer, head to the African continent where warm weather and wild animals reign. This is the home of the animal kingdom's Big Five, the lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, and buffalo.

THE CROWD
You may bump into Brits Kate Moss and Lily Allen at the Madikwe Game Reserve.

THE VIBE
This is no lazy sojourn. South Africa is one of the adventure capitals of the world. Enjoy game viewing on land or shark cage-diving near coastal hotspots and everything in between. But don't worry about roughing it. Luxury tours inject creature comforts with the best of nature.

THE ESSENTIALS
Rough-and-tumble wear. Khakis, camels, and coffees help you blend in, making it easier to observe the safari scene. Natural materials like rope and leather keep you in sync with the theme of adventure.
