Let's be honest: air travel doesn't exactly have the best reputation. We've all heard the horror stories of lost baggage, questionable airplane meals, and, of course, there's the headline-making and utterly terrifying incident of David Dao being physically removed from a United flight last year. But with that in mind, some airlines really do make traveling feel like a first-class experience. That's why TripAdvisor compiled the Travelers' Choice Awards to recognize the best airlines in the world.

The travel planning and booking site just revealed the 2018 winners of the Travelers' Choice awards, where they crowned a top 10 list of the best airlines in the world according to travelers. TripAdvisor determined this year's winners using an algorithm that analyzed reviews and ratings submitted by travelers over a 12-month period on TripAdvisor Flights. Overall, the awards honored 69 airlines, and even recognized the best airlines in seven regions across the globe.

Singapore Airlines took the top spot on the 2018 list, up from number two in the 2017 TripAdvisor Best Airlines in the World List. Last year's top airline, Emirates, slipped to number three on this year's ranking. Air New Zealand, which ranked number five on the 2017 list, moved up to the number two spot this year. Southwest Airlines was the only United States-based airline to crack the top 10 list in 2018. U.K.-based Jet2.com, Taiwan's EVA Air, and Qatar's Qatar Airways are all new additions to the list, having been left out of 2017's top 10.
