Things You Must Pack in Your Travel Carry-On Bag

Nifty items that pass airline regulations.

When traveling on a long-haul flight, have these these things handy for a more comfortable trip. Just make sure you bring the proper sizes to get you past airport security without a hitch.

Cleansing Wipes

Praise those who have the balance and patience for face cleansing during a bumpy flight. Want the easy way out? Bring facial wipes instead. A real cleanser will only subtract milliliters from your precious airline-regulated 100 ml for carry-on liquids.

Perfume atomizer

That said, you can still pack your perfume without having to bring the big bottle. Transfer the liquid to an atomizer, which doubles as your spritz.

Travel-size creams

Long flights have a way of making your skin dull overnight. If you must bring a moisturizer, choose a container with as little as 15 to 30 ml. Nuxe, a French skincare brand available at Rustan’s, offers mini versions of 10 gels and creams for less than P3,000.

Tiny toothbrush and hotel toothpaste

Those caterpillar-size tubes have better use in flight than in hotels. Have one in your carry-on and store the bigger version in the luggage you’ll check in. Opt for a small mouthwash for a quicker trip to the lavatory.

Mini lipstick and concealer

The next time you buy items from Bobbi Brown, ask for a free mini lipstick. It is about half the size of a regular tube. For dark circles, get Clinique’s Line Smoothing Concealer, which comes in a small tube with a sponge-tip applicator. A little touchup before touchdown will liven up your face, even if you spent all night binging on in-flight entertainment.

Small envelope case for papers

Regular passport holders don’t have room for bigger travel documents, so have an envelope case about as small as a sheet of tri-folded bond paper. Here you can store your printed visa (some embassies like Australia issue a paper document instead of the usual passport stick-on) and plane ticket. This tiny thing is also useful when you go to countries that have tax rebates—store your receipts and get refunded at the airport.

Power bank

Charging and battery-operated devices must be packed in your carry-on, not your checked-in luggage. This includes your power bank for both mobile and laptop.

Foreign currency

It’s always best to do currency exchange at a local bank, days before your flight. This way you don’t need to look for a money changer when you land or pay a processing fee. Even if you have your credit card with you, having cash on hand is important in case of emergencies.

Hoodie neck pillow

Even if you're flying business class to New York or Berlin, it's nice to have that extra softness and support during that 18-hour flight. It also has a hood in case you get cold during the flight.

Pen

Have one for filling out immigration documents. Not all airlines and airports have multiple pens available.

Clear resealable bag

Some airports require that you place liquids and creams in a clear plastic bag. Just have one ready in case you’re asked to separate them from the rest of your carry-on items.
