Almost a year after TripAdvisor allowed passengers to rate their flight experiences, the travel website has revealed which airlines have come out on top in its Travelers' Choice Awards.

Emirates has been named the best in the world according to thousands of reviews gathered on the site over the last 12 months. As well as receiving the main prize, the airline, which launched in 1985 with just two aircraft, was awarded Best First Class in the world and Best Economy Class world within the Class of Service category.

Emirates was rated excellent in a number of areas important to passengers, including legroom, customer service, cleanliness and in-flight entertainment, beating Singapore Airlines to the number one spot.

Low-cost US airline JetBlue and Air New Zealand were among those placed in the top 10, which also featured a few less well-known brands. Brazilian airline Azul was named the third best, while Thailand's regional airline Thai Smile was ranked in eighth place.
