The Best Staycation Ideas for the Holiday Season
Ditch the traffic and the long-haul flights and create wonderful family memories.

The holidays are a time to create wonderful memories. But if you’re not too keen on flying miles away, then a staycation may be the perfect way to relax this season.

Minus long-haul flights to far-flung destinations, a staycation won’t leave you travel weary and jetlagged. Plus, it’s more eco-friendly and convenient! Here are the best things to do this Christmas.

Hotel staycation

Samba at Shangri-La at the Fort will offer a 6-course feast for P6,000 per person, with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot.

An overnight stay at a luxe hotel is a classic when it comes to staycations. This season, guests who book at Shangri-La at the Fort through January 7, 2018, will be treated to 10 percent savings on rooms, with rates starting at P8,550 for the Deluxe Room. The offer includes breakfast for two at High Street Cafe, use of Kerry Sports Manila’s gym and swimming pools. For the hotel’s New Year’s Eve countdown, rates start at P15,000.

For those who book the Stay and Play package, kids will be given all-day access to Adventure Zone. The package includes an in-room camping set-up with a tent, bean bags and sleeping bags, a variety of amenities including welcome treats, Adventure Zone apparel, Boni the Bull backpack and children's bathroom items. The Stay and Play package’s rates start from Php 15,000 for a one-bedroom Residence respectively.

Countryside staycation

Tagaytay is always a welcome retreat to city dwellers, and the holidays are no exception. Instead of your usual haunts, book a stay at Raffi’s Way. The four bedroom designer villa in Tagaytay is a one-of-a-kind modern home away from home. It overlooks the best of Tagaytay and has a number of amenities: a cozy pool and of course, its living room with floor-to-ceiling windows.

Since it's in Tagaytay, you can also explore your favorites such as Tagaytay Highlands, Taal Yacht Club, Nuvali, and Antonio’s. Rates begin at P30,000 on weekdays for 12-15 people while on weekends it starts at P35,000 for 12-15 people.

Baking ideas

Baking is one way to get into the festive mood. Make a gingerbread house with the whole family. You can even make a contest out of it. Opt to make your own sticky rice snacks, from bibingka to puto bumbong. Pair these with a piping hot cup of cocoa and you’ll be good to go.

Why not turn your home into a spa? An at-home treatment beats braving the holiday traffic, and it’s not as hard as it seems. All you need is a clean counter for products, containers for each concoction, and a set of robes and towels. Make an activity out of it, and do some scrub by yourself. Read more here.

Movie marathon

Cozy up with the family and put on some holiday favorites such as It’s A Wonderful Life, A Charlie Brown Christmas, A Christmas Story, or for the newer generation Home Alone, Love Actually, Elf. Thanks to the digital age, most of these are available on demand. Read this list of all-time best Christmas movies.
