The Hilton brand has a had a long history in Manila. In the 1960s, the very first Hilton in the Far East opened along the old Isaac Peral Street (now United Nations Avenue). It became the center of Manila’s social life almost as soon as it opened, where foreign dignitaries and international celebrities stayed and where the country’s VVIPs mingled during receptions, fashion shows, and countless other events.

The old Hilton Manila. The building is still standing but has since been rebranded.

The hotel was rebranded in 1995 and for many years, the only Hilton in the country was the one in Mactan Island in Cebu, until that, too, gave way to a new look and name in 2011.

But the hotel brand first established in 1919 by Conrad Hilton (whose heirs include self-described celebutante Paris Hilton) is finally back in the country, this time at the Resorts World Manila complex in Pasay City. Hilton Manila opened in the last quarter of 2018 and is the seventh hotel in the sprawling property that sits across from Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

As one of the world’s biggest hotel chains, the Hilton currently has more than 4,900 properties segregated into 14 different brands in more than 100 countries worldwide, so it feels pretty special that it’s finally back here in Manila. (Otherwise, we just feel left out). Whether it will reach the same the dizzying heights its predecessor did back in the 1960s, only time will tell.
