If the idea of staying in someone’s apartment while you travel has kept you away from Airbnb since they launched 10 years ago, the San Francisco-based startup is about to change your mind. Here’s what they have in store for luxury travelers later this year.

BEYOND BY AIRBNB

Following the acquisition of Luxury Retreats in 2017, Airbnb will launch Beyond by Airbnb this spring offering the platform’s highest-end homes (read: lots and lots of villas). But homes are just the beginning. The “beyond” in Beyond by Airbnb will include a soup-to-nuts travel planning service that will pair customized experiences with luxury listings to deliver what Airbnb co-founder Brian Chesky called “the trip of a lifetime” in a keynote speech Thursday at San Francisco’s Masonic Theatre.

“Ten years ago we never dreamed of what Airbnb could become,” Chesky said. “In fact, people thought the idea that strangers would stay in each other’s homes was crazy. Today, millions of people every night do just that. But we want to go further by supporting and expanding our community so that in 10 years time, more than one billion people per year will experience the benefits of magical travel on Airbnb.”

AIRBNB PLUS

In addition to Beyond, Airbnb launched another tier of luxury listings today with 2,000 design-forward homes in 13 cities across the world. All Airbnb Plus homes have been verified in person against a 100-point checklist for quality, cleanliness and style to provide a consistent and comfortable experience from listing to listing.

While cleanliness and certain amenities like fully-equipped kitchens and plush towels in each bathroom will be standardized in each Airbnb Plus, the homes will all feature their own unique design elements that show off both the host's and the location's personal style.

You can book Airbnb Plus homes starting today in Austin, Barcelona, Cape Town, Chicago, Los Angeles, London, Melbourne, Milan, Rome, San Francisco, Shanghai, Sydney, and Toronto. On average these listings average about $250 per night.
