Breaking Down the Dress Code for Princess Eugenie's Wedding

Fortunately, hats are still required for women.

We're just a month away from Princess Eugenie's wedding, and while her invitation has yet to be shared publicly by the royal family, Vanity Fair published a first-look at the stationery online today.

The cards are notably different from the formal invites to her cousin Harry's wedding in a number of ways, one of which is the event's dress code. At Harry and Meghan's nuptials earlier this year, the royal couple asked women to wear day dresses and hats and the men to wear uniforms, morning coats, or lounge suits.

While the suggested attire for women at Princess Eugenie's wedding to her fiancé Jack Brooksbank, remains the same for women (day dresses and hats), their dress code is a bit more strict for men, requiring that they wear a morning coat.

Brooksbank, with Princess Eugenie, wore a morning coat to Charlie Van Straubenzee’s wedding in August.

Given that Brooksbank has not served in the military, he won't wear a uniform on his wedding day, and so his guests likely won't either. The full morning coat, with all its various components, is traditionally what British men wear to weddings, so perhaps the lounge suit was an addition for Meghan and Harry's American guests who might have been unfamiliar with the custom.

But guests concerned about putting a toe out of line in terms of protocol needn't be worried. Those invited to the wedding can expect to receive extra information regarding clothing prior to the celebration.

"There will be additional guidance for the attendees," Meier said in advance of Harry and Meghan's wedding, though it's sure to ring true with Princess Eugenie's as well. "Though we will not see it, there will often be an internal document circulated to give them more information about the dress code."
