These Photos Offer an Intimate Look Into Manila's Grandest Parties

Everyone enjoys looking at images of beautiful people in beautiful settings. We can’t help but indulge ourselves, looking into each detail that makes these events picture-perfect: from the fancy menu to the stylish attendees, and most of all, the extravagant venue. Zooming in to get a closer look into these affairs, we asked renowned photographers to share their best snapshots taken at one of the grandest venues, Shangri-La at the Fort, and what they recall most about those special moments.

“Regal Couple”

The Photographer: Pat Dy (@patdy11, @teampatdy)

The Subjects: Rima Ostwani and Jay Najjar

The Backstory:

“I decided to take the couple's photo at one of Shangri-La at the Fort’s popular shooting spots, which is the bridgeway going to the reception hall,” said Dy. “As for my concept, I simply wanted to show the beauty and elegance of Rima and Jay.”

“I really love shooting at this hotel. You can basically shoot anywhere—the place has a good balance of natural light that complements the hotel lighting."

Dy recalled how it was such a grand celebration for Rima and Jay; guests came in from Lebanon and all corners of the world. They delighted in the warm and attentive service at Shangri-La.

“Effortless Beauty”

The Photographer: Jaja Samaniego (@jajasamaniego)

The Subject: Happy Tanqueco Aliño

The Backstory:

“Happy looked stunning in her wedding gown, so I immediately knew that the grand staircase would be the ideal spot to photograph her,” said Samaniego. “The light coming from the window that afternoon was perfect—it highlighted Happy’s beautiful silhouette, too.”

Samaniego is one who knows her way around Shangri-La, as she frequents the hotel to cover grand events. “My team and I love it here because of the convenience and the ambience is simply top-notch," she said.

“Wedding Bliss”

The Photographer: Oly Ruiz (@dmetroman, @mymetrophoto)

The Subjects: Miko Sy and Mikki Toh

The Backstory:

“I love how each detail is a reflection of the couple’s taste—from the set-up, to the wedding gown and the groom’s suit, up to their choice of venue, which is the very adaptive grand ballroom of Shangri-La at the Fort."

The photographer adds an unexpected twist to the picture: a ladder. “It literally elevates the couple and represents their wedding high,” he reveals.

“A Glamorous Affair”

The Photographer: Paul Vincent (@paulvincentphotography)

The Subjects: Kevin Chang and Erika Lao

The Backstory:

Paul was recommended to cover another grand wedding at Shangri-La at the Fort. Taken at the ballroom with a romantic, starry night theme in mind, this photo captures what Paul likes about weddings. “It is memorable when you celebrate these events with close friends and family.”

“The Grand Entrance”

The Photographer: Benjie Tiongco (@benjietiongco)

The Subjects: Joanna Ladrido and Jan Rojas

The Backstory:

“For this wedding, Gideon Hermosa (event stylist) built a tunnel of lights and flowers that leads to the reception venue. I presented these by placing Jan and Joanna right at the center, showcasing the vastness of the place,” said Benjie.

The photographer looks back in awe on how the event space provided enough room for creativity. “Every detail from this wedding is just overflowing with elegance and Shangri-La at the Fort is just the perfect venue for anyone who’s looking at having that classy wedding look.”
