Sofia Zobel Elizalde is 50.

The well-loved Steps Dance Studio founder and managing director has been marking the milestone year with a series of celebrations with her nearest and dearest from different phases of her life.

Elizalde recently celebrated with her Steps family at the studio.

She had planned on a simple celebration with ice cream and cotton candy, and she was surprised that it suddenly transformed into a huge celebration.

“Every day in Steps is a happy one, but yesterday was a specially happy one. Wow I had fun!” Elizalde posted on the STEPS Facebook page. “I love you all, you made not only my year but my next 50 years!    


Elizalde founded Steps Dance Studio in 1994. It offers a variety of dance classes for all ages and all levels. Its ballet program follows the syllabus of the Royal Academy of Dance.  

In 2007, Elizalde founded the Steps Scholarship Foundation, which provides assistance to promising dancers who wish to pursue dance training and make it a future career.

Steps also works with Ayala Foundation’s Center of Excellence in Public Elementary Education (CENTEX), providing CENTEX students with dance education.

Elizalde expressed joy at the“HEARTWARMING surprise performance by our students, teachers, staff and alumni! Plus friends in New York! (you know who you are!)”

Also present at the surprise celebration was her husband, Patxi Elizalde, as well as her parents, Jaime and Beatriz Zobel de Ayala.

Elizalde ended her post thanking her colleague, party organizer Angie Cervantes, and the “Angels” who donated food and drink. “Love you ALL! My heart is overflowing!”
