The Peninsula Manila marked its 40th anniversary in the Philippines with a bang, hosting what was perhaps the biggest party of the year. Sir Michael Kadoorie, chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, the holding company of the Peninsula brand, flew in from Hong Kong to grace the celebration, together with his wife, Lady Betty Kadoorie. The Peninsula Manila general manager Mark Choon formally opened the party with a welcome speech before guests were treated to a performance by Lea Salonga and an abundant buffet spread of lechon, oysters, caviar, cheeses, and more.
