Julia Louis-Dreyfus is fighting breast cancer. The Veep and Seinfeld star, 56, revealed the news online and on social media today.

Her statement reads:

"1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I'm the one.
The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends, and fantastic insurance through my union. The bad news is not all women are so lucky, so let's fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality."

Fans responded on Instagram and Twitter with comments of love and support.

Louis-Dreyfus received her diagnosis the day after the Emmys, according to a statement from HBO to The Hollywood Reporter. "It had no bearing in the decision to renew Veep for a final season," it continues. "The writers will continue prepping as business as usual, and HBO will adjust the production schedule as needed."

The actress earned the nod for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series at the Emmys last Sunday. This marked her sixth year in a row winning the award for her performance in Veep, setting a record for the most times any actor has won an Emmy for the same role.
