Angelina Jolie and son Maddox were reportedly given a private tour of Buckingham Palace shortly after the actress had given her first lecture at the London School of Economics.

The Oscar-winning star was a visiting professor at the university on March 14 and spoke to students about her campaign to end sexual violence in areas of conflict, and reflected on her own experience in war zones such as Syria, Iraq, Yemen, South Sudan, and Somalia.

According to Hello!, Jolie and Maddox were whisked to the Queen's official residence after her lecture for a "last-minute" tour. No members of the royal family were present, and so far Buckingham Palace has declined to comment.

The palace's rooms are usually open to the public from the end of July until August, while the Queen is away at Balmoral, Scotland.

Jolie visited Buckingham Palace when she was made an honorary Dame by the Queen in 2014.

"To receive an honour related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to," she had said after accepting her Damehood. "Working with survivors of rape is an honour in itself. I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine."

Five years ago in the capital, she co-founded the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative with politician and life peer William Hague.

Their 2014 London summit on sexual violence in areas of war garnered signatures from 150 government officials who backed a declaration against rape and sexual assault being used as a tool in conflict.

Yesterday afternoon, Jolie had admitted to feeling nervous ahead of her address, telling The Evening Standard: "I'm a little nervous, feeling butterflies. I hope I do well. This is very important to me."
