The Boat House at Central Park is a magical place, an oasis of calm in the center of dizzying Manhattan.

For decades it has been the setting of many marriage proposals, a besotted man going down on bended knee to propose to the woman of his dream with a coveted Tiffany&Co. engagement ring.

The Boat House, in its city paradise of green, served as the inspiration for a recent magical evening in our city, to celebrate the opening of the new Tiffany&Co. boutique in Makati, the first standalone store outside Rustan’s, and the first to offer collections of Tiffany&Co.’s spectacular high jewelry pieces.

Zenaida Tantoco, chairman of Stores Specialists Inc. and Donnie Tantoco, president of Rustan Commercial Corporation, with guests of honor Philippe Galtié, executive vice president of Tiffany&Co. and Wei Ling Wong, Vice President of Tiffany&Co. Asia Pacific—welcomed 120 guests to the store’s grand opening, after which Mario Katigbak, country manager for Tiffany&Co. and the host with the most, led us next door to a grand tented pavilion that had seemingly sprung out of nowhere in the familiar Greenbelt setting.

The intimate space was illuminated by candlelight and sparkling chandeliers draped with clouds of white fabric that lit up two mirrored banquet tables laden with floral arrangements in pinks, and reds, and burgundies. The guests sat on transparent iconic Tiffany chairs, but of course.

The Champagne toasts never ended as guests dined on lobster salad, gold steamed cod with Osetra caviar sauce, and beef Rossini, among others on the seven-course menu. Of course, the petit fours came in the robin egg blue of that most coveted Tiffany&Co. box encasing the desires of dreams. Cheers!
