Last year, Vacheron Constantin had added two new models to its highly desirable Traditionnelle World Time watch collection. Available in either 18-karat white or 18-karat pink gold, these timepieces trounce the competition by featuring 37 world time zones, instead of the usual 24. At the center of the dial is a frosted gold world map, adding to the watch’s allure.

The fascination with world time has been with the maison since its founding in 1755, but it was only in 1932 that it could adorn its watches with an international timekeeping mechanism. This innovation was the creation of Louis Cotter, and it enabled users to read the time in 31 time zones around the world.

The latest version of the Traditionnelle World Time series is no doubt the prize of the collection. A golden case protects the Calibre 2460 WT mechanism, with 255 parts perfectly synchronized, developed, and manufactured by the artisans of Vacheron Constantin. The watch’s face displays three dials: A sapphire dial with a day-night shading and the engraved and inked 24-hour indications; a metal dial with painted cities and names; and an external metal ring with painted minute-track and applied gold hour-markers. This watch beats at a frequency of four hertz (28,800 vibrations per hour) and is endowed with a 40-hour power reserve. Though this model boasts all-new technology, it also incorporates all the signature characteristics of the collection, such as the slender bezel, a knurled motif on the back of the timepiece, a sapphire crystal caseback fastened with screws, and its dauphine-shaped hands.

Despite its breathtakingly complex construction, this watch was created to be extremely user-friendly. The wearer chooses the reference time and places it at the 6 o’clock position. The reference time can be read off either by the hour hand or the 24-hour disk, while the times in the other 36 time zones can be simultaneously determined.
