Boucheron

The French brand was established by Frederic Boucheron in 1858. Through the years the brand has become known for its fine craftsmanship and eye-catching designs. Up until the 2000s—when it was acquired by the Gucci Group and subsequently, Kering—Boucheron was one of the few remaining family-owned brands.

Bulgari

A Greek-born silversmith named Sotirio Voulgaris founded Italian luxury house Bulgari in 1884. In the world of jewelry, the brand is known for mixing precious and semi-precious stones to create stunning pieces. Upon his death, Voulgaris’ sons continued to develop what we know now as Bulgari’s distinct style using Greek and Roman classicism, the Italian Renaissance, and the 19th-century Roman school of goldsmiths.

Buccellati

Buccellati was born from a merger of a father and son’s brands, Mario Buccellati and Gianmaria Buccellati. Some of Buccellati’s most recognizable designs are lace rings and necklaces as well as a special form of engraving called rigato. In 2016, a Chinese company bought a controlling 85 percent share in the Italian company.

Cartier

Cartier is one of the most celebrated jewelry brands in the world. The French company has been trusted by royals, celebrities, socialites, and artists for exquisite jewelry since 1847. In fact, King Edward VII of England once referred to Cartier as “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers.” The brand has made a name for itself by crafting unique and daring designs while being timeless at the same time.

Chaumet

Founded in 1780, the House of Chaumet is one of the oldest jewelry brands in the world. Its history starts with Marie-Étienne Nitot, an apprentice to Aubert who famously made Marie Antoinette’s jewelry. In addition to supplying jewelry to the world’s royals, Chaumet is famous for its transformable high jewelry.

Chopard

The Swiss House of Chopard was founded in 1860 by Louis-Ulysse Chopard. In 1963, Chopard was sold to watchmaker Karl Scheufele, and his kin still own the brand to this day. Though more known for its timepieces, the brand makes sleek and refined jewelry.

De Beers

Founded in 1888, De Beers is known for its exceptional diamonds. The British brand is popular for its high jewelry which is named “The Jeweller of Light.” In addition to jewelry making, the De Beers Group is involved in diamond mining. Through the years, the brand has discovered a couple of legendary diamonds that have become famous such as the 203.04-carat Millenium Star.

De Grisogono

Swiss luxury jeweler De Grisogono got its start in 1993, after being founded by black diamond specialist Fawaz Gruosi. Under the brand, Gruosi makes otherworldly pieces that use bold design and unique materials mixed with bespoke craftsmanship. One of his most famous pieces, a flawless 163-carat necklace known as the “Art of de Grisogono, Creation 1,” sold for a record-breaking $33.7 million in 2017.

Garrard

Founded in 1735, British company Garrard is one of the oldest jewelry brands in the world. As such, it has a long history of working with the British Royal Family being the official crown jeweler from 1843 to 2007. During her engagement, Princess Diana famously broke royal tradition and selected her now iconic sapphire engagement ring from the House’s catalog.

Graff

The House of Graff makes some of the finest jewelry in the world, known for its diamonds of rarity and excellence. Through the years, the brand’s founder, Laurence Graff, has acquired a number of notable diamonds including the Windsor Yellows which were formerly owned by Wallis Simpson.

Harry Winston

American luxury jewelry company Harry Winston, Inc. was founded in 1932 by Harry Winston. Under his direction, the brand was known for its dramatic, unique designs using dazzling diamonds. In 2013, the Harry Winston brand was acquired by the Swatch Group in a $1 billion deal.
