The rules of being a gentleman will always stay permanent. However, in matters of the wardrobe, we could take a note or two from streetwear.

1. Baseball cap

The cap has been a long-time preppy and streetwear favorite. It has a multitude of uses, from hiding unkempt hair to you know, actually shielding you from the sun. Keep a gentlemanly balance by pairing a baseball cap with a crisp long-sleeved shirt and a trusty pair of trousers and loafers. Just be careful with your cap of choice; never a trucker and definitely no obnoxious logos.

2. Camouflage

It’s time to reconsider the infamous print you probably wore during the early 2000s. Camo has been dutifully reclaimed by streetwear enthusiasts and the print has become a street style staple of Pitti Uomo attendees. Inject camo into your wardrobe in doses, through subtle socks, tailored pants, or as a bold blazer. Head-to-toe camo is another discussion altogether.

3. White sneakers

A combination of sporty and casual, the white sneaker is useful for days when you need to give your feet and brogues a well-deserved rest. Keep the gentleman element by choosing sleek sneakers from classic brands. As with the baseball cap, dress everything up when one part of your outfit is casual.

4. Leather jacket

Now, the leather jacket may be a little too adventurous considering its Teddy Boy origins but who says a gentleman isn’t cool enough for the biker essential? The key to pulling off a leather jacket without looking like a wannabe rock star lies in the details. Traditional brands have redesigned the jacket in smooth leathers and suede materials in dark to neutral colors. Perfect for the modern gentleman.

5. Denim

Denim shirts are a modern gentleman staple but there are other ways to wear this versatile textile. Consider denim outerwear for casual days, not only is it comfortable but it’s the perfect mix of laid-back and dressed up. Gentlemen have sworn off the sturdy textile as bottoms, but the perfect shade and fit can be acceptable, depending on the occasion. Choosing a slim-fit pair in medium to dark shades will keep you sleek.
