Drama runs high at the Tony Awards — on and off the stage. Since its debut in 1947, some ofBroadway's finest have heated up the red carpet in backless dresses, thigh-high slits, and totally sheer ensembles.

1984: RAQUEL WELCH

Before taking the stage to sing "The Grass Is Always Greener" from Woman of the Year, Raquel stunned in a sequin-covered gown and an array of dazzling diamonds.

1996: SIGOURNEY WEAVER

A Tony Award winner in her own right, the Avatar actress went to the show's 50th anniversary in a sheer, feathered number.

Gwyneth stunned in a low-cut gold knee-length dress to support her mom (and Tony nominee!), Blythe Danner.

2002: CATHERINE ZETA-JONES

Eight years before she took home an award of her own, the 33-year-old actress went classic in a silky lace dress. Her husband, Michael Douglas, coordinated with a black tux and deep purple tie.

2002: CALISTA FLOCKHART

Wow, that's some neckline. To top it off, the actress walked the red carpet sans Harrison Ford (a.k.a her future husband) despite meeting him six months prior.

2003: SARAH JESSICA PARKER

SJP took a note from Carrie Bradshaw's signature style by donning a scandalous see-through midi-dress with classic pumps.

2003: MELANIE GRIFFITH

2005: ANNE HATHAWAY

Years before she wowed in Les Misérables, the young actress showed some leg in this interestiiiiiiiiing metallic gown. Anyone else think she visited her craft closet to add those green ribbon straps...
