Princess Diana Inspired Tory Burch's Latest Runway Collection

The preppy mainstay's new designs take cues from the royal's classic ’80s style.

Princess Diana's look never truly went out of style, but it's become something of a fashion world fixation as of late. A recent Vogue Paris editorial reshot some of the royal's most iconic paparazzi photos with Hailey Bieber standing in for Diana; a couple of seasons back, Virgil Abloh touted the princess as his runway muse.

This weekend at New York Fashion Week, Tory Burch continued the trend, choosing to take inspiration from the late princess. "I think every girl growing up wants to be a princess," model Karolína Kurková said at Tory Burch's spring-summer 2020 fashion show. "It was my dream, too, to be a princess. I mean, I do of course follow the royal family... And Princess Diana, she was very special."

Burch promised that her take on the late style icon wouldn't be "too literal," instead taking loose cues from ’80s fashion, as well as Diana's "fearlessness" and strength. Indeed, that's what came down the runway: a collection of floral prints, broad-shouldered suit jackets, and poofy sleeves. Large pearl drop earrings finished off nearly every look; the models' makeup was kept simple, with hair swept back in a deep side part.
