Princess Anne Recycled a Nearly 40-Year-Old Outfit
Earlier this week, the Princess Royal attended the annual Commonwealth Day celebration alongside other members of the royal family at Westminster Abbey in London. While all eyes were on first-time attendee Meghan Markle, who wore a cream-colored fascinator by Stephen Jones with a matching coat, and the Duchess of Cambridge, who made a similarity stylish appearance at eight months pregnant, it was actually Princess Anne who made the most noteworthy style statement by recycling a decades-old outfit.
The Princess Royal wore an elegant cream and navy coat for the occasion, complete with a matching hat, a brooch, navy gloves, a clutch, and heels.

Anne's outfit likely dates back to the late 1970s, as a few eagle-eyed Twitter users and a reporter from Majesty Magazine quickly pointed out. The Princess was first seen wearing this cream and navy outfit almost 40 (!!) years ago at the Royal Ascot in June 1980.

The timeless ensemble made another appearance in June 1985 at the Derby:

And at the Royal Ascot yet again in June 1990, this time with an umbrella:

More recently, the Princess Royal wore the coat to a garden party at Buckingham Palace in June 2015:

On each occasion, Anne paired the cream and navy coat with similar accessories—a simple dark handbag, a brooch, and navy or black shoes. It's no secret that royals have a knack for recycling their chicest outfits, but an ensemble with a 40-year lifespan is remarkable.
