Kate Middleton Wears a Flowing White Gown to the BAFTAs
The BAFTAs are one of the year's most exciting style events—and they're made only better by the presence of Kate Middleton and her impeccable fashion sense.
The Duchess opted for a white, one-shoulder gown, and finished off the look with a romantic updo.

This was surely a much easier fashion decision for Kate than her 2018 BAFTAs look was. In the wake of the newly surfaced sexual assault accusations against Harvey Weinstein and other Hollywood mainstays, actresses vowed to wear black to the BAFTAs in support of the #TimesUp campaign. This put Kate in something of a lose-lose situation.
She could either opt to wear black in solidarity with the other women, and be accused of breaking royal protocol by making a political statement, or be the sole woman not showing support for the #TimesUp campaign. In the end, Kate opted to wear dark green instead of black—making what was likely an unavoidable decision, as royals a strictly forbidden to engage in politics, and doing so would have brought on a firestorm of criticism.

Still, the very dark shade of green Kate chose, accented with a black belt, black shoes, and a black clutch, could be seen as her best effort at a compromise. If she had chosen say, a bright pink number, her sharp contrast with the sea of women in black would have made a statement in the opposite direction.
Thankfully, there was no such minefield for Kate this year. She was free to wear whatever she liked—and as always, knocked it out of the park.
