Hubert de Givenchy was a fashion icon. His work is immortalized in Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Audrey Hepburn once described him as "a creator of personality,” not just a couturier. This year, his namesake house is making headlines yet again as its head, Claire Waight Keller, has become Meghan Markle's go-to designer for everything from her wedding day to engagements with Queen.

But in addition to his legacy of style, de Givenchy should also be remembered for the ultimate cheese travel hack. A new piece in Architectural Digest, centers around de Givenchy's home with his partner Philippe Venet in the French countryside, an estate known Le Jonchet. The article goes into detail about how they decorated the space and includes a number of de Givenchy's close friends and relatives commenting on his aesthetic.

"Hubert’s taste was as handsome as he was himself and so harmonious," philanthropist and socialite Mercedes Bass says in the article. "When you visited Hubert and Philippe, your eye just traveled through the rooms, and you would think, 'That’s fabulous' and 'That’s beautiful' and 'How did he find that?'"

But honestly, the best anecdote in the piece is all about cheese. "We ate very simply, often suprême à la tomate, with a curry sauce, and always cheese," Venet says. "Hubert loved cheese."

Boy did he ever.

"If Philippe and Uncle Hubert took a 12-day voyage on their yacht, for example, 12 Camemberts would come with them, each one timed to be served on a particular day so it was perfectly ripe," Hubert's nephew James revealed.

Why yes, that is 12 cheeses for 12 days, perfectly timed for optimal indulgence on a yacht. The hashtag #travelgoals has never felt more appropriate.
