A Dark Twist on Florals, Just in Time for Fall
A young couple descends on a legendary enclave, wardrobe trunks overflowing with mysterious dark florals. People are talking. They should.
When the historical drama The Nightingale (in theaters now) premiered at the Venice Film Festival, it racked up awards and accolades. It also announced the arrival of its star, 28-year-old Aisling Franciosi. She had previously appeared on Game of Thrones and The Fall, but The Nightingale(directed by Jennifer Kent), which follows a young woman on a harrowing journey across 19th-century Tasmania, was a different challenge. "I didn't expect to find it so difficult to take myself out of the story," Franciosi says, "but by the time I was finished with the shoot, I was spent."
Giorgio Armani top (price on request).
Franciosi, who was raised in Dublin, has settled in Manhattan and finds herself much in demand; a limited series for HBO and an independent film are both set for this year. She's open to lighter fare, too. "I might be a snob in terms of quality," she says, "but not in terms of genre."
On Franciosi, Dolce & Gabbanajacket ($4,995), skirt ($2,845), earrings ($595), pumps ($795), and umbrella ($1,595); Van Cleef & Arpels timepiece ($25,400).
On Novogratz, Dolce & Gabbana shirt ($1,445) and trousers ($945).
"From as early as I can remember, basketball was my life," says the 22-year-old Novogratz, who played for Harvard Westlake in high school and was scouted for Division I college teams before a 12th-grade drama class changed his trajectory. He relocated to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and then went back to L.A. to perform in revivals of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike and This is Our Youth before his matinee idol looks landed him roles in a series of romantic comedies, including The Last Summer.
On Franciosi, Michael Kors Collection dress ($1,950); Van Cleef & Arpels timepiece ($25,400). On Novogratz, Tombolo shirt ($128); Vilebrequin pants ($260)
Next, Novogratz will appear in the drama Yes, God, Yes and will travel to South Africa to film the supernatural love story Hush Hush. It's a hectic schedule but one he says basketball prepared him for. "Ninety-nine percent of what I learned as an athlete," he says, "I can use in acting."
On Franciosi, Prada dress ($5,530). On Novogratz, Tombolo shirt ($88); Brunello Cucinelli pants ($1,095).
