From her solo walk down the aisle to her diamond tiara, Meghan Markle has proven her ability to blend modern sensibility with British tradition. Case in point, her gorgeous wedding hair: a sleek and full chignon with a middle part paired with Queen Mary's sapphire bandeau tiara and a long white veil.

Though she has a noted penchant for messy buns and typically favors loose waves with a center part, Markle chose a decidedly more formal style for the big day.

We’re still awaiting exact details about how her hair was styled, but one thing we do know? Hairspray didn’t come anywhere near her gorgeous tiara.

“It’s never good to spray pearls and turquoise, as there is a serious risk of them staining. Hairspray immediately deadens the color and fire of precious stones. It is a fairly new invention, but a menace to the final effect," London jewelry expert Geoffrey Munn told T&C earlier this year.

"Most experienced hairdressers shield the stones from the spray with a piece of card. In the past, hairpieces were commonplace, if not mandatory, and the hair plastered with all manner of pomades to give it substance. These days it’s squeaky clean, and it has become all the more difficult to anchor the tiara to the head."
