If Sunrise Had a Scent, It Would Be This New Louis Vuitton Perfume

Louis Vuitton is known for many beautiful things, most notably, its luggage, bags, and accessories.

Until 2016, the brand had yet to break into one industry that many luxury brands have been part of for long time: scents. (Technically, the brand did have a perfume line but its last scent was launched 70 years ago, and none of its three previous scents are on the market today.)

Two years ago, Maison Louis Vuitton re-released its fragrance series with seven concoctions made at the atelier of Jacques Cavallier Belletrud, Louis Vuitton’s master perfumer. This year, Louis Vuitton introduced a fine addition to its perfume family: Le Jour Se Lève.

The smell of daybreak

Translating to “the day begins” or daybreak, the perfume’s scent was inspired by the moments the sun first settles behind mountaintops, its rays touching tree branches and skimming along the ocean. What exactly does that majestic moment smell like? According to Belletrud, the scent of daybreak is reminiscent of mandarin, jasmine, cassis, incense, and notes of musk. It’s gentle and refreshing, like the first minutes of dawn.

The previous bombshell of a release established a collection inspired by flowers. Le Jour Se Lève’s mandarin notes are a first for the fragrance line. The scent, however, is a favorite of Belletrud’s. “Mandarin is a marvelous citrus fruit because it’s possible to diffuse from it simultaneously the optimism of its flesh, the freshness of the zest and the floral aspect of the tree.” He also adds that the mandarin remains distinct from its other citrus cousins: “Unlike other citruses, the mandarin doesn’t reference the structure of Cologne.”

It comes in the same iconic bottle as the rest of the Louis Vuitton perfumes.

The scent might be new, but the aesthetics are familiar. Le Jour Se Lève is presented in the same iconic bottle as the original collection of seven perfumes. It’s a classic look: a simple clear bottle with a black cork to conceal the precious concoction. The perfume is lightly colored to evoke the fragrance trail and inspiration.

It also comes in a travel-friendly option.

Jet-setters have the option of purchasing a travel set, which comes complete with a 7.5ml bottle as well as four refills. The recharges come with magnets that instantly clip onto the spray bottle for easy use.
