When it comes to manicures, Duchess Kate keeps things rather demure. Never one to opt for a neon green or hot pink, the royal shares a favorite nail polish brand with her grandmother-in-law, the Queen.

The Duchess of Cambridge and Queen Elizabeth are both reportedly fans of Essie's pinky-nude shades, with Her Majesty preferring "ballet slippers" and Kate favoring "allure" (though every so often, Kate will wear a darker varnish on her toes).

Per the brand's website, in 1989, the monarch's hairdresser sent Essie a letter requesting a bottle of ballet slippers, calling it "the only color Her Majesty would wear." She's in good company; Essie reports that 30 bottles of the shade are sold every hour in the United States alone.

And in 2011, the brand received another royal seal of approval, when Duchess Kate wore Essie on her wedding day (though some report she mixed "allure" with Bourjois So Laque Nail Enamel in Rose Lounge, for a fully custom look).
