Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II's official London residence, has 775 rooms, which means that the in-house cleaning staff has plenty of opportunities to slip-up. Unfortunately, President Barack Obama happened to be there when a rodent was found roaming the royal grounds.

According to Obama's national security advisor Ben Rhodes, in the newly released The World As It Is: A Memoir of the Obama White House, the President was practicing his speech inside of the palace when a butler rushed in with a warning.

“Mr. President, pardon me,” the butler said. “There’s a mouse.”

But instead of being affected by the news himself, Barack immediately thought of his wife, who happened to be preparing for bed in a separate room. “Don’t tell the First Lady," the President replied.

When the butler then said the staff would "try to catch it," Obama reiterated, "Just don’t tell the First Lady." Apparently, Michelle Obama is not a fan of mice, and, frankly, same.

Queen Elizabeth welcomed the Obamas as part of a three-day presidential visit to the U.K. in 2011. According to the BBC, Barack and Michelle stayed at the palace for one night.

Rhodes also shares another royal-related story in the book, in which he joked with the President about the monarchy being "a dying empire." Obama didn't agree, but did find the comment funny and reportedly laughed about it.

“No, they’ve still got a lot going on,” he responded. “Did you see the bling on the queen?”

On a separate occasion, the President shared his adoration for Queen Elizabeth.

“I really love the queen,” Obama told Rhodes. “She’s just like Toot, my grandmother. Courteous. Straightforward. All about what she thinks. She doesn’t suffer fools.”
