History was made during this year’s Oscars when Brooklyn-based songwriter Robert "Bobby" Lopez became the first person to win a double Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT). Lopez was just awarded an Oscar for co-writing “Remember Me” from Pixar-animated film Coco with his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez.

The songwriter, who co-created The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q, won his first Oscar (along with Anderson-Lopez) for Frozen’s “Let It Go” in 2014. In 2004, he won a Tony on Best Original Score for Avenue Q and in 2011, two Tonys for The Book of Mormon. He won an Emmy on Outstanding Music Direction and Composition for The Wonder Pets in 2008 and 2010. The Emmy win was followed by a Grammy award for The Book of Mormon, Frozen, and “Let It Go.” In total, Lopez has two Emmys, three Grammys, two Oscars, and three Tony Awards.

Lopez was born to Frank Lopez and Katherine Lowe Lopez. His father, who works as director of publications for NYU Langone Medical Center, hails from San Enrique, Iloilo. Lopez grew up in Greenwich Village where he took piano lessons and tried his hand at the saxophone. After attending Hunter College High School, he went to Yale where he wrote musical plays and was part of the university's acapella group. Currently, the Lopezes live in Park Slope with their two daughters.

Those who hold the EGOT status include Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Jonathan Tunick, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg, and Scott Rudin. Not only is Lopez the first individual to win a double EGOT, it’s only taken the composer 10 years to win all four awards. And at 43, it's likely the multi-award-winning songwriter could best his own record.
