Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, are celebrating 25 years of being together this month.

Brosnan might be as smooth and charming as James Bond, the iconic spy he’s played in films, but he's never emboded the Bond playboy lifestyle. Many have commended the couple for keeping the passion alive in their 17-year marriage, a rare feat in Hollywood.

Let’s take a look back at their relationship.

PIERCE BROSNAN WAS A WIDOWER WHEN HE MET KEELY SHAYE SMITH.

The Irish James Bond actor was married to former Australian Bond girl Cassandra Harris from 1980 to 1991. The couple had three children: Christopher, Charlotte, and Sean. Christopher and Charlotte were Cassandra’s children from an earlier marriage. Brosnan legally adopted them and they took his name.

Sadly, Harris was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1987 and she died in 1991. Their daughter Charlotte died the same way in 2003.

BROSNAN AND SMITH MET AT A BEACH PARTY.

In the early '90s, American journalist Keely Shaye Smith attended a beach party to interview Ted Danson. When the Cheers actor left, Brosnan and Smith chatted at the event and took a liking to each other. They met up again a few days later and went on their first date.

In a 2001 interview with People magazine, Smith said Brosnan was “captivating, tall, dark, and handsome. I understand why women find him sexy, because he is an appealing man. He really likes and appreciates women.”

SMITH HELPED BROSNAN GET OVER HIS GRIEF.

Brosnan said in a 2013 Express article, “Keely has always been kind and compassionate and encouraged me to mourn Cassie.”

Even if his wife has died three years prior to his  meeting Smith, Brosnan was still grieving. Smith didn’t take that against him, and together, they worked through his heartache. "I think of her all the time. I suppose Keely is my North Star, always looking out for me,” he said.

BROSNAN’S FRIENDS AND FAMILY FULLY SUPPORTED THEIR UNION.

Brosnan had said he wouldn’t marry again, but he and Smith tied the knot in August. 4, 2001. The couple had a traditional Catholic wedding in Ballintubber Abbey in Couty Mayo, Ireland. Friends and family rejoiced as they watched Brosnan finally move on with Smith.

Charlotte Brosnan told People: “Just seeing the ultimate love that these two people have for each other was unbelievable. My dad found it again, and that makes me happy.” She was also a bridesmaid at the wedding.

The two became inseparable after meeting in Mexico. They had their first son, Dylan, on January 13, 1997. Keely became pregnant again in 2000, causing them to delay their May nuptials. Their second son, Paris, was born on February 27, 2001.

THEY’RE NOT ONLY PASSIONATE ABOUT EACH OTHER, THEY’RE ALSO PASSIONATE ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT.

The couple used to reside in an eco-friendly Malibu beach-front home. They participate in activities to promote the protection of marine life with the Natural Resources Defense Council. Brosnan and Smith have also campaigned against whaling on behalf of the International Whaling Commission.

THEY’RE BUILT TO LAST.

Brosnan still gushes about Smith all the time, as evidenced on his Instagram. The two are often seen displaying affection on the red carpet and while out and about

“I found a great woman in Keely Shaye. Not if I searched a million times over would I find one as good,” Brosnan told People.

In German magazine Meins, he also said, “I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn't be able to live without. When Keely looks at me, I go weak.”

Their looks have changed over the years, but they still look at each other like it’s the first day they met.
