Many of our households usually enlist the help of professionals for the upkeep of our homes, from nannies and drivers to housekeepers. They are the hardworking people that take care of us and our loved ones. Are we doing enough to also take care of them?

Automobile mogul Marc Soong recently shared some inspiring thoughts on social media. In a Facebook post, the Autostrada Motore, Inc. president revealed how he and his wife Loralee Baron-Soong support their household staff, in the hope of inspiring more employer to empower their staff. “I also feel that we have to help the people who live with us as society tends to not realize how little they are paid vs the sacrifices they make to live with us to help our households.”

Soong shared how he and his wife encouraged and aided their household helper to attain a college education. Soong says that she had expressed wanting to return to her hometown in Visayas to continue her studies, hoping her aunt would finance the expenses. The couple then volunteered to sponsor her studies in Manila, and now she is a year away from attaining her degree and becoming a teacher.

Possibly inspired by benevolence that has brought her to this point, their helper  said that she would like to take some time to give back and teach. Loralee Baron-Soong also sponsored their driver’s daughter’s schooling. As a college graduate, she's now working in a school.

Soong also shared how he opened bank accounts for his household staff and provides them 13th-month pay, along with a 14th-month bonus. Clearly a believer in empowering others, he also expressed his admiration for friends Jiggy and Marnie Manicad for investing in their household helpers so that they may fund their business ventures.

“So with seed money from the Manicads, all their household staff have small businesses! One has a tricycle business in the province, another helping run a dorm, and others! AMAZING and INSPIRING!”

Soong also talked about an unnamed friend's plans to build homes for his household staff. “We are all looking for ways to help change the world. Some solutions are staring at you in the face everyday.”
