Gal Gadot (pronounced Gah-dote) might have won the hearts of audiences when she played the part of Gisele Yashar in Fast and the Furious, but the Israeli actress is once more in the spotlight with her starring role of Diana Prince in Wonder Woman. Here are more interesting facts about the woman behind the shield.

1. Even as a child, she already liked to steal the scene.

Similar to the headstrong and independent young Diana in Wonder Woman, a 5-year-old Gadot always wanted to be included among the adults. NME tells a story the actress’ mother often recounts about her daughter crashing a family get-together past her bedtime. She snuck out of bed and onto the rooftop terrace, where she hosed down guests, screaming, “It’s me! Look at me!”

2. She is the daughter of a teacher and an engineer.

Her father, Michael, works as an engineer and her mother, Irit, was a physical education teacher. Gal tells ESPN, “Because of [my mom], I was so active my entire life. There was no TV time… She always instructed us to be physical.” She also has a younger sister named Dana.

3. She studied law and international relations after serving in the Israeli army.

In Israel, it is mandatory for women to serve at least two years in the army. Gadot did her time and served as a combat trainer after a three-month boot camp. She later said that the training aided in her performance in Fast & Furious and future roles in action movies. Afterward, she completed her studies in law and international relations in the Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya.

4. She represented Israel in Miss Universe 2004.

A pageant scout convinced her to compete and she was named Miss Israel in 2004. She never imagined she would win the competition so when she entered Miss Universe, she rebelled. In an interview with Glamour, she says “I was afraid I might get picked again. I showed up late. I came without gowns.” Yet this experience eventually launched her modeling career.

5. She is married to Yaron Versano, an Israeli businessman.

Two years after their introduction at a party in the desert, Gadot and Yaron Versano were married. Versano, a businessman, is 10 years Gadot’s senior. Together, they have two daughters, Alma, 5, and three-month-old Maya.

6. Her vehicle of choice? A black 2006 Ducati Monster S2R.

7. Warner Bros. first announced her role as Wonder Woman in 2013.

Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill were all set with their roles as Batman and Superman, respectively, in the 2016 movie Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and it was later announced that Gadot would be joining them. She reportedly auditioned for the role without knowing which character it was for.

8. She was five months pregnant while filming some scenes for Wonder Woman.

During reshoots, Gadot was five months pregnant with her daughter Maya. To sidestep this, the special effects team covered up her bump with a green triangle so they could edit it later. She continued to do the choreography, which the team ensured was not too physically taxing.

9. She was almost in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Before nabbing her role as Diana of Themyscira, Gadot auditioned for a role in Guardians of the Galaxy. Although the part she auditioned for was never named, she said in an interview in 2013 that the part she was up for required her to shave her head and be painted blue, a description that sounds identical to the character Nebula.
