The Royal Family Wished Prince Charles a Happy 70th Birthday with a Special Video

The royal family has kept us on the edge of our seats in the run-up to Prince Charles' 70th birthday, what with the new BBC documentary, the Vanity Fair cover, and yesterday's new batch of official family portraits. But the big day is finally here, and it seems the Windsors still have a few surprises up their sleeves.

The real celebration will happen at Buckingham Palace tonight, but the family is already wishing Charles a happy birthday in the digital sphere. This morning, their official Twitter and Instagram accounts posted a short video, which chronicles the Prince's life in pictures.

It starts with a 1948 photo of baby Charles clutching Queen Elizabeth's pearls, and quickly flips through his childhood with friends and family, an adolescence with peers and music, and an adulthood spent raising children of his own. The final slide brings the video full circle, with present-day Charles standing beside his mother.

Other digital well-wishes came from Kensington Palace, the home of Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle, and Charles's brother, the Duke of York.

Kensington Palace shared the new family portrait, adding "Wishing a very Happy 70th Birthday to The Prince of Wales!" And for his part, the Duke shared an image of himself with Charles, with the caption "Wishing a very happy birthday to HRH The Prince of Wales."

These tributes are touching, and only have us more excited about what's to come at Buckingham Palace later tonight.
