What Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry, the Rest of the Royal Family's 10 Year Challenge Would Look Like
It's only the first month of 2019 and already internet has graced us with a viral trend—the #10YearChallenge. Perhaps you've been on a digital detox and haven't heard of it, but the challenge is to post a 2009 throwback photo next to a current 2019 photo of yourself. Let's just say it's made for entertaining commentary on decade-old fashion choices–yes, even the chic tastemakers of today layered their shirts and wore boyfriend blazers.
As we've simultaneously marveled and cringed at the string of celebrity throwbacks, we couldn't help but think about how our favorite members of the royal family have changed in the past 10 years. From Duchess Kate and Prince William to the Queen and Princess Eugenie, here's a look at the royal family's very own #10YearChallenge.
It's hard to believe that the Duchess of Cambridge was simply Kate Middleton back in 2009. Now, the Duchess is a prominent member of the royal family and a mother of three, but back in 2009, Kate was the girlfriend of Prince William who would frequently cheer him on at his polo matches. Kate's royal transformation began when the couple got engaged in 2010.
In 2009, Prince William was undergoing military helicopter training for search and rescue in the Royal Air Force. Now, 10 years later, Will is a full-time working royal and family man. It seems his son George inherited Will's love of helicopters.
In 2018 alone, Meghan Markle transitioned from an American actress on a hit television series to the Duchess of Sussex, now expecting a child who will be seventh in line to the British throne. It's safe to say Meghan is the royal who's life has changed the most over the last ten years.
By 2009, Prince Harry had already been promoted to Lieutenant with the Household Cavalry and was beginning his helicopter flight training. As the wild-child of the royal household, the Prince still had a long way to go before he settled down with Meghan Markle and transformed into the Duke of Sussex.
The Queen holds the title as the longest ruling monarch in British history, serving her country for 65 years. Despite the years passing, she remains steadfast in her appearances and obligations—always flashing a grinning face to the crowds
In 2009, a then 18-year-old Princess Eugenie hadn't even met her future husband, Jack Brooksbank. The couple met in Verbier, Switzerland in 2010 and married this past October at St. George's Chapel. Eugenie now works in London as an associate director of Hauser & Wirth, an art gallery.
Princess Beatrice recently made headlines with the announcement of a new boyfriend, but 10 years ago the young royal was still with long-term boyfriend, Dave Clark. Beatrice is now the vice president of partnerships and strategy at Afiniti.com, a New York City-based artificial intelligence company.
Decades don't matter when you have a good fashion sense, and no one proves that better than Prince Charles. His style has remained relatively unchanged since 2009.
Zara Tindall was still living the single life ten years ago—and was known by her maiden name, Phillips. Now, the youngest child of Princess Anne is married to former rugby player, Mike Tindall and the mother of two children.
