The winter holidays are officially over for the royal family. While Will, Kate, Meghan, and Harry returned to public duties in the first weeks of the new year, Queen Elizabeth made her trip to London from Sandringham this morning.

The British monarch was spotted at King's Lynn railway station in Norfolk, boarding a train back to the city. For her public transit journey, the Queen wore a patterned gray coat over a tan skirt, and she paired the neutral ensemble with black gloves, practical pumps, a black handbag, and simple pearl jewelry.

This winter has been more eventful than most for the Queen, as her husband Prince Philip was recently involved in a car accident near Sandringham. On January 17, his Land Rover collided with another car. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, though the driver of the other car was cut in the crash, and the passenger broke her wrist.

Prince Philip has since apologized to at least one of the women in writing.

In the letter, which was first published in the Sunday Mirror and confirmed to be real by Buckingham Palace, the Duke of Edinburgh said he was "deeply sorry" and shared that he was "somewhat shaken" by the accident but also "greatly relieved" that no one was seriously hurt.

He also seemed to take responsibility for the crash by writing, "I can only imagine that I failed to see the car coming, and I am very contrite about the consequences," and signed the note in his own hand.

Over the weekend, Buckingham Palace also shared the news that Prince Philip had relinquished his driver's license to the Norfolk Police: "After careful consideration The Duke of Edinburgh has taken the decision to voluntarily surrender his driving licence," reads the statement.
