Every year, Queen Elizabeth hosts thousands of lucky guests for a series of garden parties—three on the grounds of Buckingham Palace, and one at Holyrood House. (Although, as was the case earlier this month, sometimes other senior royals will host them in the Queen's place.) The parties have been a mainstay on the royal calendar for well over a century.

On May 21, the Queen kept up the tradition with yet another garden party, attended by a whopping 8,000 people, per royal reporter Rebecca English. Here, all the best photos from the event.

Royal reporter Rebecca English reported that the Queen was clearly enjoying the sunshine, telling one guest: "Well you do rather hope the sun shines as when you invite 8,000 people to have tea on your lawn it can be a bit of a worry."
