Princess Sofia Just Might Be the Toughest Member of the Swedish Royal Family

She participated in an obstacle race that's known to include everything from fire and mud to barbed wire and monkey bars.

Sofia of Sweden might be a princess, but she's no damsel in need of rescuing. Over the weekend, she participated in a Tough Viking event, a race that's strikingly similar to a Tough Mudder here in the United States.

According to the organizer's website, these courses often feature "fire, water, electricity, [and] mud," all obstacles which are "designed together with the Swedish elite maritime special forces unit Kustjägarna." In an Instagram post, the company also called this race in particular a "beast" and the "biggest and most awesome track ever."

Here's a map of this weekend's course, which clearly includes barbed wire, a net climb, and something ominously called a "swamp."

Would you ever compete in a race like Tough Viking?

Definitely, I'd love to.

Barbed wire and mud? No way.

Sofia ran the 15-kilometer race with her two sisters, Lina and Sara, and ultimately finished with a time of two hours, 49 minutes and 19 seconds. She either placed 72nd or 76th in her age and gender division (differing publications are reporting differing results).

In a statement to the publication Svenskdam, royal spokeswoman Margareta Thorgren confirmed that Sofia and her sisters participated in the event, but said it was a "private" weekend. The Daily Mail has a rather spectacular photo of Sofia competing in the race.

The Swedish royals have been busy this summer. Just last week, Sofia and her husband Prince Carl Philip accompanied their two-year-old son Prince Andrew on his first official engagement, a visit to the Nynäs nature reserve.

"It feels great fun for us to get here to Sörmland, and that Alexander's very first official visit to his duchy will become just this beautiful place, in Nynä's nature reserve," Carl Philip said during the event, according to Hola.

The Swedish royals also released a number of new family portraits earlier this month. Feast your eyes on those photos below:
