Just minutes after England's heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Croatia in the World Cup semi-finals, Prince William tweeted a message of encouragement to the team.

"I know how disappointed @england must feel right now but I couldn’t be more proud of this team and you should hold your heads high," he wrote.

"You’ve had an incredible #WorldCup, made history, and gave us fans something to believe in. We know there is more to come from this @england team. W"

William, who serves as the President of the Football Association, has made something of a habit of tweeting about the World Cup games, embracing social media in a way we rarely see from the core members of the royal family.

For example, after the English team defeated Colombia in a penalty shootout, he posted:

"I couldn’t be prouder of @england - a victory in a penalty shootout! You have well and truly earned your place in the final eight of the #worldcup and you should know the whole country is right behind you for Saturday! Come on England!"

He signed the tweet simply "W."

William also tweeted after England's July 7 victory over Sweden.

"You wanted to make history @England and you are doing just that. This has been an incredible #WorldCup run and we’ve enjoyed every minute. You deserve this moment – Football’s Coming Home! W"

While England is now out of the tournament, we certainly hope the Tweeting sticks. Croatia will play France for the World Cup title on Sunday July 15 at 11 a.m. eastern.
