In an emotional new interview, Prince William has opened up about how the loss of his mother Diana impacted his wedding day. The interview was conducted for the documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy, airing this evening in the US and UK, which features Princes William and Harry speaking candidly about Diana for the first time.

"Beforehand, I had a lot of time to think about it," William said of his mother's absence in the run-up to his 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton. "When it came to the wedding, I did really feel that she was there. There are times when you look to someone or something for strength, and I very much felt she was there for me."

During the same portion of the documentary, Harry recalled what a good hugger Diana was. "She would just engulf you and squeeze you as tight as possible… Even talking about it now, I can feel the hugs that she used to give us, and I miss that, I miss that feeling, I miss having that mother to be able to give you those hugs and give you that compassion that I think everybody needs."

Diana, Our Mother premiered on HBO on July 24.
