Kate Middleton, Prince William, Princess Eugenie and More Royals Wish Prince Philip a Happy Birthday
Every Instagram account tied to the royal family dug into the archives, surfacing some of Philip's most touching moments over the years. Princess Eugenie, Prince Charles, and Kate Middleton and Prince Williams's accounts did a particularly good job of finding photos.
In her post, Princess Eugenie harkened back to a Christmas day service and Trooping the Colour from her youth. "Happy Birthday to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh," she wrote. "I found a couple of classic photographs of Grandpa and I on Christmas Day and Trooping the Colour a few years ago now."
The first photo shows Philip tapping a young Eugenie on the head, as she cups her face in adolescent exasperation. In the second and third images, Philip stands behind Eugenie on the Buckingham Palace balcony during Trooping the Colour.
Prince Charles, Philip's first child, also shared a touching childhood photo. It shows Philip holding a young Charles's hand, helping him find his way through an airfield. "A two-year-old Prince Charles holds the Duke’s hand after greeting his father following his return home from a trip to Malta in 1951," the caption explains.
Prince William and Kate Middleton shared a four-part slideshow—and the second and third photos were clear standouts. One shows Philip cracking Prince William up, and the other features Kate, also seemingly laughing at a Philip joke.
Not that the other royal accounts failed to impress. The main account, which represents Queen Elizabeth, Philip, and several other royals, shared two cute photos of the birthday boy; Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared one modern-day and one flashback photo; and Prince Andrew chose to highlight Philip in military garb.
