Speculation over what sort of gown Meghan Markle will wear on her wedding day began mere minutes after the American actress announced her engagement to Prince Harry, but now, we're turning our attention to Prince Harry's sartorial decision.

Will he wear a military uniform? Or rather, will we see the royal in morning dress on his big day?

Prince William wore the vibrant red Irish Guards Mounted Officer’s uniform at his wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011, but Prince Harry might not follow his lead.

Back in November, royal expert and officer of arms Alastair Bruce spoke with Cosmopolitan's UK edition about what Prince Harry could wear on his wedding day.

"As Prince Harry is no longer a serving officer in the Armed Forces, it is unlikely he will wear a uniform. However he could, if he wishes, as he hold a special position as a Member of the Royal Family," Bruce said.

"The Duke of Cambridge wore the uniform of the Colonel, Irish Guards, because he had recently been appointed to this by The Queen and his wedding, as a future monarch, was a ceremonial one," he continued.

"If [Prince Harry and Meghan Markle] choose to marry in St. George's Chapel, as the Earl of Wessex did, I would expect he would choose Morning Dress."

As we now know, the royal wedding will indeed be at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, and despite Prince Harry's new position of Captain General Royal Marines, Bruce still thinks he won't wear a military uniform for his big day.

"Looking at the way Harry is, I don’t think he’d want all his friends to be put through all that panoply, and once you have a groom wearing full military uniform, you’re going to have a lot of other people wear full military uniform. It kind of changes the day," Bruce told T&C, while speaking about the new documentary The Coronation, which features footage of the Queen speaking about her coronation day for the first time publicly and will air on the Smithsonian Channel over the weekend.

"The way this is different is that [Harry] is not in the direct line of succession. He is a member of the royal family. This is a family wedding which is taking place not in public, not out of the public eye, but within the castle, which is much less visual," Bruce said.

"His brother was married in the coronation church of Westminster Abbey where the crown jewels were laid upon the queen’s head, a very public place. And he was definitely marked out to be the heir after the heir, and Harry is quite safely different from that."

That said, Bruce was quick to point out that he didn't know the young royal's plans for certain, so we'll just have to wait and see come May 19.

"I may be wrong," he said. "But I remain of the opinion that he won’t be in uniform."
