Prince Harry has more to celebrate than his upcoming wedding to Meghan Markle: he just received a royal promotion.

The newly-engaged royal, who released his stunning engagement portraits yesterday, is taking over one of Prince Philip's most important roles: Captain General Royal Marines.

The Queen formally handed the position over to Harry last week, announcing the news on Twitter. In honor of the occasion, the Palace released a photo of Harry and Philip with Major General Robert Magowan, Commandant General Royal Marines, and Major General Charles Stickland, Commandant General Royal Marines Designate.

Prince Philip was appointed to the role on June 2, 1953, taking on the position from Elizabeth's father, King George VI, People reports. This is one of many roles Philip is handing over to the younger generation of royals. Earlier this year, Philip announced his retirement from royal duties at age 96, after over 70 years of royal service.
