Who Will Perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Wedding Reception?

Following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's engagement announcement in November, Kensington Palace released a statement, setting the tone for the royal nuptials.

"This wedding, like all weddings, will be a moment of fun and joy that will reflect the characters of the Bride and Groom," read the memo. But what does that mean in terms of music at the reception?

When Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot back in 2011, they celebrated their marriage to a soundtrack provided by English singer Ellie Goulding. In the later hours of the evening, a DJ took over, playing pop music like "Mr. Brightside" by The Killers, reported the Telegraph.

It's unlikely that Goulding would reprise her role, but several other artists have already thrown their hats in the ring for this year's gig.

Ed Sheeran said he'd be interested in playing the happy couple's first dance, if Markle and Harry were to ask, that is. "Yeah, why not?" he said, when a reporter posed the question.

Sam Smith also volunteered, telling The Sun, "I’m obsessed. I want to sing at the wedding. Oh my God I’d love to, it would be a dream."

He later joked, "I’d have to wear a dress and a crown though!"

And British grime artist Stormzy has expressed interest, saying he could provide "a little acoustic for young Harry," if he gets an invite.

As People pointed out, Prince Harry has relationships with several musical acts, so finding the perfect singer should be no hassle. For example, Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams have both played at the Invictus Games, and in 2016, Coldplay performed at an event for Harry's charity Sentebale.

But Markle's musical taste could heavily influence the decision. This time last year, she posted a playlist on her lifestyle blog The Tig that included favorites like Maggie Rogers, the Crystal Fighters, and Janelle Monae among artists.
