  • At this point, it's unclear if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have found out the sex of their baby.
  • If they do know, they aren't sharing the news publicly.

Back in October, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle kicked off their tour of the Oceania region with an announcement: They are expecting their first child in the spring of 2019.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019," read a tweet from Kensington Palace.

In the hours following the happy news, additional details were made public. Notably, Meghan was feeling well and was at least 12 weeks along, and both the royals and Meghan's mother Doria are delighted. But there was no mention of the baby's sex.

According to Babycenter, a popular resource for parents-to-be, "Most pregnant women find out their baby's sex (if they choose to know) during their mid-pregnancy ultrasound, usually between 16 and 20 weeks."

So at that point, Meghan and Harry likely still had a few weeks to go—but it seems they've chosen never to find out. While on a visit to Birkenhead in January, Meghan reportedly said they're keeping the baby's gender a surprise.

But in recent weeks, rumors have swirled that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do know the sex of their baby, they just aren't sharing the news publicly.

Citing "sources close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex" Elle reports that "Harry and Meghan have found out the sex of their newborn, but the couple has elected to keep it a surprise from the public."

Harry's brother Prince William, and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge, were also famously quiet about the genders of all three of their children until Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and little Prince Louis each made their public debuts on the steps of the Lindo Wing.

But all that said, while in Melbourne last year, Harry hinted that he's hoping for a girl.

As he walked down the street, a woman called out to Harry "I hope it's a girl!" and he quickly responded "so do I."
