Scotland's historic Fife Arms Hotel just reopened after an extensive restoration, and Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla were on hand to tour the space today. The royals, who are officially known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when in Scotland, were both appropriately dressed in plaid as they viewed the property and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

Prince Charles also enjoyed a drink while exploring the newly reopened hotel, which is located in Braemar, Scotland, close to Balmoral Castle and the spot where the royal family gathers each year for the Highland Games.

The landmark hotel dates back to 1856 but new owners Iwan and Manuela Wirth have put a real focus on the property's art during the renovation. As co-founders of the gallery Hauser & Wirth, they brought both antique and newly commissioned pieces into the hotel. As a whole, the Fife Arms is home to over 14,000 historic objects and works of art, many of which are closely associated with Braemar.

Artists featured at the hotel include Pablo Picasso, Lucien Freud, Archibald Thorburn, and Louise Bourgeois. There's even a piece with royal pedigree: a pencil and watercolor piece created by Queen Victoria, who sketched and painted throughout her life, is on display. The work is inscribed with the date Victoria made it: October 6, 1874.

The interiors of the hotel were designed by Russell Sage, using Scottish heritage as a major inspiration—which means yes, there is a tartan all over, and each room has its own individual design. Take a look inside the new Fife Arms here:
