During a visit to the U.K. Supreme Court, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, revealed that she and her husband were planning a historic visit to Cuba.

No member of the royal family has stepped foot in the country since Fidel Castro established the communist state in 1959. Rumors that Prince Charles and Camilla would break tradition to do so have been swirling since November when a court circular noted that "The President of the Republic of Cuba called upon The Prince of Wales at Clarence House," per the Telegraph.

The visit has yet to be confirmed by Clarence House, but Camilla spoke to Baroness Hale, the President of the Supreme Court, about the couple's plans. "They are going to visit the Caribbean," Lady Hale said, according to the Daily Mail. "They are not only going to the Anglo Caribbean, they are going to Cuba as well.

"[Camilla] is very much looking forward to going to Cuba," Lady Hale continued. "It will be quite an event for members of the royal family to visit Cuba. She said she loved the music and was interested in the architecture. And she did make a remark about she wasn't so sure about the food." (Cuban cuisine is famously delicious—the Duchess will hopefully warm up once she's had the chance to try it.)

Overseas royal trips such as this are planned by the U.K.'s Foreign Office, and generally have the aim of exercising a "soft power" unlike that of politicians, as the Telegraph explains. No British Prime Minister has visited communist Cuba, but following Barack Obama's historic trip to the country in 2016, it seems that the U.K. is testing the waters.
