Photographer Chris Jackson Takes Us Behind the Scenes of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Royal Tour
Even before Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced they are expecting their first child next spring, there was huge excitement surrounding their tour of Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Tonga. But according to Getty's royal photographer Chris Jackson, international interest in the visit "erupted" after news broke that the Duchess of Sussex is pregnant.
"It's great news for the couple and the country," he said. "And it guarantees a place in history for this landmark royal tour!"
Jackson, who heads up royal coverage for Getty Images, and recently published a book of photos called Modern Monarchy, was on-hand in Sydney yesterday to capture the crowds who came out to wish the couple well. Read on for his favorite photos from day one of the visit.
"Meghan and Harry held hands as they disembarked a boat at the Man-O-War steps outside the Opera House."
"Security was tight for such a high profile event, and I captured these snipers keeping an eye out on top of the iconic Opera House as preparations were made for the royal arrival."
"For me this shot really sums up the huge amount of interest people have in the royal couple—a sea of iPhones capturing Meghan and Harry’s every move!"
"Poignantly. Meghan chose to wear Princess Diana’s butterfly earrings and one of her bracelets—I loved this animated shot as she met members of the crowds at the Royal Opera House with the earrings clearly on display!"
"Huge crowds turned out to catch a glimpse of the couple in front of the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge."
"Harry and Meghan took their time to talk to as many members of public as possible. I loved this shot of Harry posing for a photo."
