Big changes are afoot in Sweden with the announcement that five of King Carl XVI Gustaf's grandchildren no longer have royal titles. Specifically, this change is impacting the children of Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip, who are Carl XVI Gustaf's two younger children.

People reported, "While they will remain members of the royal family, they have lost their official HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles." This means that the children of Princess Madeleine and her husband, Christopher O'Neill, and the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia will no longer be required to perform royal duties.

Madeleine has three children: Princess Leonore, Prince Nicolas, and Princess Adrienne, while Carl Philip has two sons, Prince Alexander and Prince Gabriel. While the children will get to keep their titles of prince and princess, they are not personal titles, meaning any future spouses or children will not have a right to them, per People.

Per an official palace statement, "His Majesty The King has decided on changes to The Royal House." It continued, "His Majesty The King has decided that the children of Their Royal Highnesses Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, and the children of Her Royal Highness Princess Madeleine and Mr. Christopher O'Neill will no longer be members of The Royal House."

The children of Crown Princess Victoria, who is the heir to the throne, will continue to be HRH Princess Estelle and HRH Prince Oscar.

Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry similarly decided against requesting a royal title for Archie upon his birth, instead deciding to raise him without the pressures of being a prince. As a result, Archie carries the surname Mountbatten-Windsor, with BAZAAR's royal editor-at-large Omid Scobie confirming via Twitter that Meghan and Harry's decision was "all part of giving him as normal a life as possible."
