Kate Middleton and Prince William Thank Fans Who Wished Prince Louis a Happy First Birthday
Just as excitement for the arrival Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's baby was reaching its zenith, the Cambridge family was marking their own milestone. Prince Louis, the youngest child of Kate Middleton and Prince William, celebrating his first birthday on April 23.
It's a longstanding tradition for fans to mail royals congratulatory letters, celebrating the family's weddings, anniversaries, birthdays, and more—and the vast majority of the time, they can count on receiving a heartfelt reply from the palace. Prince Louis's recent birthday was no different, and after sending in their well-wishes, royal watchers are now receiving responses.
One such fan, Jess Ilse, shared her thank-you note on Twitter. The simple card features a portrait of the young prince on the front—one of three such photos taken by Kate Middleton, released to celebrate his birthday—and a short message on the back.
"The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are most grateful for the thoughtful message you sent Prince Louis on the occasion of his first birthday," the note reads. "It really was kind of you and greatly appreciated."
Between his birthday photoshoot and his appearance at the Chelsea Flower Show, royal fans have gotten to see quite a bit of Prince Louis lately. Kensington Palace released some particularly compelling photos of the one-year-old royal from the latter event.
In the selection of images, Louis is exploring the kid-friendly garden designed by Kate Middleton, and clearly having a great time. The photos also reveal that he's walking—even running—with confidence, and generally starting his second year off right.
