The Duchess of Cambridge Wears Princess Diana's Signature Tiara Again

Duchess Kate paired the headpiece with an equally stunning lace gown.

Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge has a long history of paying tribute to Princess Diana with her style choices. Tonight, the Duchess took it a step further by wearing her late mother-in-law's favorite crown, the Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara. The Duchess sported the bejeweled headpiece at Buckingham Palace for a state dinner welcoming King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain.

The Duchess also donned a pink figure-fitting lace Marchesa gown with ruffled bell sleeves and a plunging neckline. In addition to the crown, she accessorized with a dripping jeweled necklace and pearl pendant earrings.

Diana first received Cambridge Lover's Knot Tiara (also called Queen Mary's Lover's Knot Tiara) as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth II in 1981, according to The Telegraph. The piece is over 100 years old and was first commissioned by Queen Mary in the early 1900s (hence its alternate title). Garrand, a favored jeweler by the British royal family, made the tiara, which boasts 19 diamond arches, each holding a dangling pearl.

The Duchess has worn the late princess' treasured headpiece multiple times, including to a Buckingham Palace banquet in December 2016, where she wore it with a bright red Jenny Packham gown. She first wore the tiara in December 2015 with a white lace dress.

While the Duchess doesn't wear a tiara often, she has worn a handful of gorgeous royal toppers since her wedding to Prince William. In 2015, the Duchess wore the Lotus Flower tiara to a state dinner.

And, of course, on her wedding day to Prince William back in April 2011, Duchess Kate wore a sparkling Cartier Halo Tiara, also known as the Scroll Tiara. Her wedding day tiara was lent to her by Queen Elizabeth. It was originally purchased by King George VI for the Queen Mother in 1936, and was later presented to Queen Elizabeth on her 18th birthday, People reports.
