JFK Jr.'s Former Girlfriend Julie Baker Calls Him 'Humble, Normal, Great Guy' In First TV Interview

They dated for two years.

Before John F. Kennedy Jr. married Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in 1996, he was linked to a number of famous women, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Cindy Crawford, and Daryl Hannah, whom he was with on and off for five years.

Many of his ex-girlfriends have kept mum about what it was like to date the son of President John F. Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Over the years, only a few have spoken out and it's almost always been fondly, like Parker's description of Kennedy as "a nice man" in a 1992 New York Times interview.

For the first time ever, one of Kennedy's lesser-known flings, model Julie Baker, opens up on television about her two-year relationship with the "quirky" Kennedy.

"I just loved that he was kind of silly, quirky, forgetful, fun, and adventurous," Baker says in an exclusive clip of ABC's new documentary The Last Days of JFK Jr. (January 3 at 9 p.m. EST.) obtained by Town & Country.

Baker and Kennedy met in 1989 and had their first date at an Andrew Dice Clay stand-up show. They stayed together for about two years.

He was just "a normal, humble, great guy," Baker recalls in the ABC documentary.

Parker, who met Kennedy two years later, similarly described him in the 1992 Times interview, but called dating him a "fiasco."

"We would go places where there wasn't a soul around, and the next day I'd see pictures of us there in the tabloids," she said.

"I never had any idea what real fame was until I met John," she said. "He's a nice man, but for God's sake, I feel like I should apologize for dating him. It has become the defining factor in the person I am... It's pathetic. When I die, they are going to say, 'Oh, yeah, Sarah once dated John Kennedy.' "

Three years after Kennedy and Parker broke up, the press got wind of a blossoming new romance with a Calvin Klein publicist named Caroline Bessette. In 1996 the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony on an island off the coast of Georgia.

Just three years into their marriage, Kennedy and Bessette-Kennedy, along with her sister, Lauren Bessette, died in a plane crash. The group was in a single-engine plane being piloted by Kennedy when it landed into the Atlantic Ocean near Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. This July will mark 20 years since their deaths.
